Additional Sony Ericsson HBHDS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset Information

Sony Ericsson makes listening to music and taking calls a quality experience with the launch of the Stereo Bluetooth¿ Headset HBH-DS980, announced today. This stylish accessory delivers wireless music and calls with superior sound performance, even in noisy environments. This is achieved through advances in design, ergonomics and audio: Digital noise cancellation/echo reduction to reduce background noise. Bluetooth¿ 2.0 to deliver better quality voice calls. A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) for high quality sound when listening to music. A hidden OLED display delivers a seamless design effect, much brighter than a conventional LCD display. Given a talk time or music playback time of up to 6 hours, the HBH-DS980 has to be designed with comfort in mind. The soft silicon ear buds on the stereo headset are provided in three sizes, so as to ensure an optimum fit with the size and shape of the wearer's ear. Separate to the headset, the overall unit weighs in at just 27 grams, so won't be a burden when worn around the neck. Of course, if you are wearing your headset for long periods, you will also want it to look the part. Finished in a stylish charcoal colour, the Stereo Bluetooth¿ Headset HBH-DS980 features a hidden ¿magic mirror' display that only becomes visible once the headset is activated. Use it to view the title of the song playing on your phone, the battery status of your headset or the details of the caller trying to reach you. You can use the HBH-DS980 with more than one device at the same time. The new multipoint function allows you to listen to music stored on a Bluetooth¿ enabled PC/laptop and handle calls from your phone at the same time.

What Customers Say About Sony Ericsson HBHDS980 Stereo Bluetooth Headset:

Maybe that's a pro and it's not that bad, but I listen to music at work and I like to be able to hear what's going on around me.My only other minor complaint is the select button for operating the hbh-ds980 is the call activate button on the microphone. I still prefer the Apple headphone style that fits in your ears without plugging the ear canal. The hbh-ds980 pairs with multiple devices so you'll like that you can have it set with both your phone and your music player (if they're two different things). I had a Jabra stereo headset and it was incredibly uncomfortable so when I saw this one, I figured it would be perfect for the iPhone. You have to control advancing to the next track from the iPhone itself. It's pretty comfortable hanging around your neck and the headphones fit the ears well. And that Jabra headset that I had came with a dongle for iPod, the Jabra A125s, which I was able to pair with the hbh-ds980. And since the hbh-ds980 is able to connect to multiple devices, it can still take the calls from the iPhone.Cons about the headset: The earbuds fit well, but really block out sounds.like putting your fingers in your ears.

That's why you're considering a stereo bluetooh headset right. The sound is good.

But you can access the iPhone's call list and address book entries to make a call from the hbh-ds980. You wouldn't even know this thing has a display by looking at it.

Well, iPhone apparently did not implement the proper support so though it works with iPhone, it can only stop and start the music. It's not intuitive, but it works.Pros about the headset:The OLED display is neat.

Or one thing with two different bluetooth devices (like my iPhone with the Jabra A125s). The phone functions seem to work well (no voice dial from the headset though).

When I plug the A125s into the iPhone, the next and previous track buttons work.

For music quality, these are passable. Does the job, but not stellar. I'd been eagerly anticipating the day Apple added stereo bluetooth support (A2DP) on the iPhone. You must use the iPhone touchscreen interface to do this.2) You may need to delete and redo the pairing for a clean signal.- I listened to music for a couple of hours without problem. The only Sony item I've ever had last more than 2 years with regular use is my Dream Machine clock radio (10+ years). So, 3 stars. What were you expecting. not the passive noise cancellation type with the rubber tips like these.

The control buttons feel a bit on the cheap side. The wires have extra strain relief at the connection points (wire to earbud, wire to control unit), but my experience with Sony is that these won't stand up to heavy abuse. Still, we could converse and understand each other. As with most Sony equipment, I don't expect it to last more than a couple years with regular use.

When I returned and resumedlistening by hitting the play/pause button on the S980, I noticed periodicdropouts in the sound that do not exist in the source MP3.- After I removed the S980 from the pairing list and added it back in, thedropouts went away.As far as those complaining about the sound quality, come on.this is apair of earbuds. A bit of static and sounded like the caller was in a tunnel or in the bathroom.

As soon as I had iPhone OS 3.0 on my 3G, I tried outthe stereo bluetooth support with the S980.I should note that this model does work with iPhone OS 3.0, but there are acouple annoying limitations:1) iPhone does not support the AVRCP profile.- This means that you can power-on, connect, control the volume, and listen to music.- The limitation is that you _cannot_ skip tracks or scan through a track using the S980. A bit muddy across the spectrum andlight on the bass.all within normal earbud parameters. For phone quality, these were a bit on the suboptimal side.

Better than the alternativeAltec Lansing Backbeat 906's with their funky ear clips and 4 levels ofvolume control. When I went to lunch, I hit the play/pause button on the S980 before leaving it at my deskand heading out of the building with my iPhone.

If you want audiophile quality sound, don't use earbuds, esp.

To reiterate, the device still works with my paired devices but the broken display is a bummer. .the display no longer works after 6 months of use. I have paired 3 different devices to it and still manages work but since the display doesn't work anymore, it will be tough to navigate the menu should I decide to add another device.

Requires hanging from your neck and feels strange to be speaking on the phone with two headphones in - you can't hear your own voice, as if you are talking with earplugs in.

I love the fact though, that when paired with sony ericsson phones you can actually go through your phone's contact list and dial right on the headset using the LCD Screen. Great Sound Quality but the Hanging Around the Neck is Uncomfortable. When you move, it moves and is constantly hitting your chest.
